      El artículo revisa el nacimiento de la revista católica La Esperanza de Los Ángeles, California, en 1930, su primer año de publicación, tomando como perspectiva central de análisis el imaginario civilizatorio y conservador. La Esperanza es significativa ya que se trata de una publicación en lengua castellana, patrocinada por la congregación claretiana, editada en Estados Unidos y dirigida a la comunidad mexicana radicada en ese país. Este trabajo analiza en particular el antiliberalismo, los temas misionales en clave civilizatoria y racista y la disciplina moral impuesta a la mujer.
