The Pasto Bueno ore consists of wolframite, tetrahedrite, and base metal sulphides in quartz veins spatially associated with a quartz monzonite intrusion. Using combined geologic, fluid inclusion, gas chemistry, and stable and radiogenic isotope chemistry data the details of ore genesis and sources of mineralising fluids can be reconstructed. It is thought that variations in 87Sr/86Sr in the hydrothermal ore fluid were the result of strontium derivation from different source regions and do not reflect changes in wall-rock composition or selective leaching. Wolframite was deposited when a meteoric water influx caused a decrease in fluid temperature and salinity.
