نبذة مختصرة : Chaque année en montagne, des routes sont bloquées, des bâtiments détruits, voire des vies humaines perdues à cause de chutes de pierres ou de rochers. Afin d'optimiser les ouvrages de protection, il est nécessaire de développer des techniques nouvelles de conception et de dimensionnement. Ici, il est question d'une nouvelle génération d'ouvrages : les merlons pare-blocs modulaires construits à partir de géo-cellules. Les auteurs nous présentent la démarche de recherche suivie, et les méthodes expérimentales et numériques mises en œuvre pour l'élaboration de ce nouvel outil.Rockfall protection embankments are soil levees aiming at intercepting falling boulders at the toe of slopes. Based on the need for optimisation of these structures, a new type of embankment is proposed. It consists in using geocells to build a modular structure. To develop this technology, an intensive study was initiated, combining experiments with numerical modelling following a multi-scale approach. This paper describes the approach, presenting both the experimental and numerical methods. Beyond its technical content, it illustrates how research approaches can improve the comprehension of structures under sever loadings and lead to optimized design tools.
