In this essay the author provides a profound reflection on the cultural composition of Mexico based on a continuous piogram of empirical analysis initiated more than ten years ago. This reflection establishes a solid bridge between empirical and interpretive anthropology and the contenqwraiy cognitive sciences. It opens new spaces for thinking about the cultural pluralism of the countiy based on the detailed consideration of the past in close dialogue with the future, a problematic that is not only scientific, but also ethical and in its way, political.
