A implantação e a instalação do conjunto arquitetónico de Valverde e a sua relação com a condução e o uso da água

The chapel and cloister of the Bom Jesus de Valverde Convent (founded by Cardinal D. Henrique in 1540) were classified in 1962 by the Portuguese State as Imóveis de Interesse Público (portuguese classification for listed building). This classification was extended by ministerial approval in 2003 to Quinta and Paço areas (Paço has been built prior to the convent, which began in the late 15th century), process which is parallel tothe recognition of a Special Protection Zone for the whole ensemble. Belonging to the Mitra of Évora, the Archbishop D. Frei Domingos de Gusmão (1678- 1689) promotes major renovation works of the Quinta and the Palace, namely in terms of hydraulic structures, which includes the Aqueduct that displays its weapons. In order to improve the quality of the water supplied to the occupants and its usersthe Aqueduct arises as the backbone of the system. The Aqueduct benefits the Palace, services of the Quinta, gardens, orchards, silenceand meditation areas, also comprises several pipes coming from distinct source pointsIt is the axis of several attached structures (Engenho do Gato, Casa da Água, tanks) of aremarkable complexity, symbolizing the importance of the water in this heritage complex, nowadays owned by the University of Évora and with unique characteristics in the Iberian peninsula context. This text is the result of a first multidisciplinary presentation work that has been developed and whose primary purpose is the creation of original pedagogical materials about this heritage site, the Palace, the Quinta and the Valverde Convent, from the linking of primary and secondary sources, as well as more recent studies and monographs, to which drawings and other means of reading on the field have been combined, such as photography and aerial photography.//A capela e o claustro do Convento do Bom Jesus de Valverde (fundado pelo Cardeal D.
