نبذة مختصرة : The purpose of this research was to establish the prevalence of risk factors in mothers, for the occurrence of cleft lip and palate, in newborns treated at the Hospital Obstetric Gynecology “Isidro Ayora”, in Quito, considering that this is a first class hospital, and pregnant women come from various sites of Ecuador. The methodology used for data collection was direct observation, which collected data from medical records of patients presenting pathology children during 2012 to 2014, 36 patients were treated with this disease carriers babies; the variables taken into account were: the mother's age, educational level, intake of drugs, physical and biological factors, inheritance.
