Ph.D. ; This study aims to investigate the localization of the Sanguo yanyi (The Romance of Three Kingdoms) though an analysis of the following three primary texts about the legend of the Three Kingdoms written by Tokugawa Japanese: Tsūzoku sangokushi (The Popular History of the Three Kingdoms), Ehon Tsūzoku sangokushi (The Illustrative Popular History of the Three Kingdoms), and Fuzoku sangokushi (Erotic History of the Three Kingdoms). ; Through Tsūzoku sangokushi, we can understand the localization of the concept of tianming (the mandate of heaven) in Tokugawa Japan. In Chinese understanding of tianming, the heaven would decide the fate of the people and the nation. The use of adjectives such as “ayashimi”, “ayashimu” and “ayashinde” in the Tsūzoku sangokushi suggests that Konan Bunzan’s understanding of tianming was different from the Chinese original version. By adding the goryō (spirit) belief into the translation, the Sanguo yanyi localized the concept of tianming in the Sanguo yanyi. ; Besides, this study also examines the localization of the characters through a textual and graphic analysis of the Ehon tsūzoku sangokushi and the Fuzoku sangokushi. Katsushika Taito added Japanese yurei (sprits) and yokai (monsters) elements into the characters of the Three Kingdoms. In the Fuzoku sangokushi, Utagawa Kunisada turned the Legend of the Three Kingdoms into an erotic scroll (shunga) where the original stories and values were lost. ; 本研究透過分析江戶時代形成的三國傳說來調查 《三國演義》在日本的本地化。在眾多的三國志物中, 本研究選擇 《通俗三國志》 、《繪本通俗三國志》及《風俗三國志》作為分析其本地化的文本。 ; 本研究透過《通俗三國志》分析原著天命觀如何被本地化。天命觀反映英雄的命運及國家的興衰均取決於天意。 本研究透過分析《通俗三國志》中所採用有關怪異的形容詞, 例如「怪しみ」、「怪しむ」、「怪しんで」及「不思議」來分析譯者湖南文山對天命觀的理解。大量的譯例顯示文山把日本的御靈信仰融入天命觀。 ; 此外，本研究亦從《繪本通俗三國志》及《風俗三國志》分析德川日人對《三國演義》人物造型的本地化。葛飾戴斗在《繪本通俗三國志》以日式幽靈與妖怪等形像來來描繪三國人物,。而在《風俗三國志》, 歌川國貞在《風俗三國志》將三國故事變成春畫，完全顛覆中國本土 《三國演義》 價值觀及原本價值觀。 ; 李維儉. ; "2019年12月". ; Parallel title from added title page. ; Thesis Ph.D. Chinese University of Hong Kong 2020. ; Includes bibliographical references (leaves 319-333). ; Abstracts in Chinese and ...
