نبذة مختصرة : The purpose of this paper is to examine the academic activities related to human sciences that have been conducted in post-war Japan, according to the method of the sociology of knowledge. The first literature on “human sciences” in post-war Japan was “Dictionary for the Science of Man ” that published in 1951. An attempt to create an organization for human sciences was initiated by Science Council of Japan, with“ National Institutes of Human Sciences,” but it did not realize. The Faculty of Human Sciences, Osaka University, established in 1972, was the first human sciences organization in Japan. However, the concept of human science remains ambiguous in Japan, even though half a century has passed since the organization of human sciences was established. This article aims to elucidate the cause of the ambiguity in human sciences by examining both the literature and organizations on human science published in Japan. In considering the ambiguity of the human sciences, it is important to understand the relationship to“ humanities”,“ science of man”, and“behavioral sciences”. ; departmental bulletin paper
