      Gemäß dem Prinzip der Sparsamkeit sollte ein Modell immer so komplex wie nötig und nicht so komplex wie möglich sein. Dadurch können bei der Simulation virtueller Prototypen Ressourcen geschont und eine hohe Anpassungsgüte an gegebene Messdaten bei gleichzeitig hohem Extrapolationsvermögen gewährleistet werden. Zu diesem Zweck werden Kennzahlen erforscht mit denen in Abhängigkeit unterschiedlicher Simulationszwecke die jeweils optimalen Simulationsmodellkomplexitäten identifiziert werden können.
