نبذة مختصرة : This article analyzes the place given to Brazil in Uruguayan history, written by Uruguay’s military, in a didactic book published in 1980. Members of the military in an attempt to justify the political violence the country had been put through, ventured to write history. This history is very nationalistic and consequently made them praise the conflicts throughout Uruguayan history, with Brazil. Since both dictatorships shared the same philosophy, this speech could not only stress the differences between the countries and therefore went back and forth between friend and enemy almost simultaneously. The main topics of the study are: language, Uruguay’s independence, the problem of boundaries and soccer. These are the points that both countries are more in contact with and at the same time have more differences. ; Neste artigo, analisa-se o lugar outorgado ao Brasil na história do Uruguai, conforme os militares uruguaios, que escreviam no livro didático editado por eles no ano 1980. Estes com o desejo de justificar a violência política que tinham levado ao país aventuraram-se a escrever história. Esta história é nacionalista, e por causa disso destacaram as inimizades entre o Uruguai e o Brasil no percurso da história. Pela união ideológica das ditaduras brasileira e a uruguaia, não podiam simplesmente destacar as diferenças entre ambos países, e por isso passava-se no discurso do “inimigo” ao “amigo”. As questões a discutir são a análise que se faz sobre o idioma, a independência do Uruguai, os limites territoriais e o futebol. Essas questões são aquelas que mais nos acercam e mais nos diferenciam.
