نبذة مختصرة : The present study has as its theme the role of municipalities in the current global information society. So it has the general objective analysis on the free access to the internet in public places as a means of digital inclusion, with such spaces known as digital o hotspots squares. In this case we will present concepts, definitions and brief historical development of the objects of study of this research, namely, globalization, the information society and digital inclusion. We emphasize that this research will analyze recent data on internet access in Brazil, and will check the key municipal projects freely and free internet access in public squares. For this research we use the hypothetical-deductive method by the methodology of analysis of books, scientific papers and official data by renamed institutions to present a scientifically valid conclusion. ; O presente estudo tem como tema o papel dos Municípios na atual sociedade da informação globalizada. Assim, possui o objetivo geral a análise sobre o acesso livre e gratuito à internet em praças públicas como meio de inclusão digital, sendo tais espaços conhecidos como praças digitais ou hotspots. Neste caso apresentaremos conceitos, definições e breve evolução histórica sobre os principais objetos de estudo destas pesquisas, quais sejam: globalização, sociedade da informação e inclusão digital. Destacamos que nesta pesquisa analisaremos dados recentes sobre acesso á internet no Brasil, bem como verificaremos os principais projetos municipais de acesso livre e gratuito à internet nas praças públicas. Para esta pesquisa utilizamos o método hipotético-dedutivo mediante a metodologia da análise de livros, artigos científicos e dados oficiais por instituições renomeadas para apresentarmos uma conclusão cientificamente válida
