نبذة مختصرة : Ammapatti village is in the circle of Palani in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu, India. Ammapatti Karuppannasamy Temple is majestically on the banks of the Palar Dam Lake. The people of this place have various accounts of the origin and worship of this fiery deity. Ammapatti Karuppannasamy appears on the standing stature with a large turban (Urumal) on his head, ash and round vermillion on his forehead, menacing eyes, twisted mustache and Long Sickle (Veecharival) in one hand, a Katha (Maze) in the other hand, and a girdle around his waist that reaches below the knees. Ammapatti Karuppannasamy is the village guardian deity. He is known as Karuppannasamy or Karuppasamy or Karuppan. He is also called by many names and usually appears as a guardian deity. A 1900 AD statue of Karuppannasamy is displayed in the museum of Virudhunagar which was found at Thiruchuzhi in Virudhunagar district. Karuppasamy worship is widespread in the villages of Tamil Nadu. Religious scholars refer to Karuppasamy worship as folk deity worship. Ammapatti Karuppannasamy is the most famous guardian deity who protects the water bodies such as ponds, lakes, rivers, wells, etc. Ammapattiyan guards the entire place around the temple sitting on the banks of the Palar Dam Lake. There are two deities. One is Periya Karuppan and another is Chinna Karuppan. There are also Saptakannimar statues on the side of the Sanctum Sanatorium. This deity is seen altogether in the lives of Tamil people to the extent that there are no villages without Karuppasamy. Ammapatti Karuppannasamy appears as a guardian deity not only for the people of the village but also for the entire place. The people of this region have a lot of fear and devotion to Karuppannasamy as he does not leave those who commit injustices unpunished.
