Língua, imaginação e resistência em Lua de larvas, de Sally Gardner, e 1984, de George Orwell

The work Maggot Moon, written by the British author Sally Gardner, is a dystopian young adult novel, published in 2014, and set in a totalitarian country called Motherland. The story is narrated in the first person by the main character Standish Treadwell, a 15 year old boy with different colored eyes and dyslexia. In it, we glimpse the journey of this character who tries to find answers about the disappearances of his parents, his best friend, Hector Lush, and the death of his classmate, Eric Owen. The main objective of this article is to analyze this fictional narrative and present the references to the dystopian work 1984, by George Orwell, published in 1949, reflecting on the linguistic issue in both works as tools of control and domination of people. Furthermore, we mobilize concepts about dystopias in literature and, finally, we discuss Standish Treadwell's imaginative force that impacts not only the way of telling his story, but also becomes a way of resisting the totalitarian State. ; Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação) ; A obra Lua de larvas, escrita pela britânica Sally Gardner, é um romance distópico juvenil, publicado em 2014, e ambientado em um país totalitário chamado de Terra Mãe. A história é narrada em primeira pessoa pelo personagem protagonista Standish Treadwell, um menino de 15 anos de olhos de cores diferentes e com dislexia. Nela vislumbramos a jornada desse personagem que tenta encontrar respostas sobre os desaparecimentos de seus pais, de seu melhor amigo, Hector Lush e a morte de seu amigo de sala, Eric Owen. O objetivo principal deste artigo é analisar esta narrativa ficcional e apresentar as referências à obra diatópica 1984, de George Orwell, publicada em 1949, refletimos sobre a questão linguística em ambas as obras como ferramentas de controle e dominação das pessoas.
