A girls school founded by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the Academy began in the Stone Church in 1809. The school then moved to the White House in 1810. The Academy was chartered in 1817. St. Joseph's College was chartered in 1902. The College closed in 1973 and was later sold to the federal government. The college campus is now home to the National Emergency Training Center.
