نبذة مختصرة : Fantastic literature and its role in the development of the adolescent´s imagination are investigated. Fantastic literature is highly important for young people since they identify themselves to the heroes of fantastic narratives. In fact, it is an approach of daily psychological, biological and social conflicts with the mono-myth. Current paper presents data retrieved by field research in a private and public school. The sample foregrounded two infographs on reading averages, the most read and known stories of the genre and a view on the social class of the interviewed students. Results show the great help given by literature with regard to young people´s imagination and discuss how fantasy is relevant to adolescents. ; O presente artigo pretende analisar a literatura fantástica e seu auxílio no desenvolvimento da imaginação do adolescente. Com vistas a este objetivo, parte-se da importância da literatura de fantasia para os jovens, demonstrando que existe uma identificação do jovem com os heróis das narrativas fantásticas, bem como uma aproximação de seus conflitos cotidianos, psicológicos, biológicos e sociais com o monomito. Além disto, este artigo apresenta dados de uma pesquisa de campo realizada em escolas, uma pública e uma particular. A amostra coletada deu base para dois infográficos com informações sobre a média de leitura, as histórias mais lidas e conhecidas deste gênero e um panorama sobre a classe social dos estudantes entrevistados. Ao final é exposto como a literatura auxilia na imaginação do jovem, discorrendo sobre como o fantasiar é importante ao adolescente.
