نبذة مختصرة : This study has the general objective of identifying and analyzing the (in)efficiency of public spending on education in Elementary School in municipalities in the mesoregions of the state of Minas Gerais. To meet the proposed objective, the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique was used to estimate the efficiency/inefficiency scores. Subsequently, the scores obtained were submitted to spatial analysis to verify their spatial distribution in the municipalities of the mesoregions of Minas Gerais. Two models were estimated: Model 1 referring to the early years of Elementary School and Model 2 relating to the final years of that level of education. The results of Model 1 showed that 210 (25.00%) of the 840 municipalities analyzed were efficient in allocating educational expenses in the early years of Elementary School in the analyzed year. Of the 845 municipalities analyzed in Model 2, 213 (25.21%) were considered efficient in the allocation of educational expenditures in the final years of Elementary School. Among the two models, Model 2 is the one that concentrates the largest number of efficient municipalities. In models 1 and 2 there are 131 benchmark units that are distributed in the various regions of the state of Minas Gerais, mainly in the mesoregions Jequitinhonha, South/Southwest of Minas, Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, Campos das Vertentes, Central Mineira, Vale do Rio Doce and Zona da Mata. ; O presente estudo tem como objetivo geral identificar e analisar a (in)eficiência dos gastos públicos com educação no Ensino Fundamental dos municípios das mesorregiões do estado de Minas Gerais.
