      Ad delivery algorithms on social media platforms have a great influence on how political ads are delivered to citizens (Ali et al., 2020; Ali et al., 2021; Papakyriakopoulos et al., 2022). When a user visits a platform and scrolls through their timeline, automated systems run ad auctions to determine which advertisement to display based on factors like predicted relevance for the audience, advertiser budgets, and goals, as well as competing demand for the audience (Lambrecht & Tucker, 2019; Imana et al. 2021). In order to investigate the role of ad delivery algorithms, Votta et al. (2024, under review) collaborated with three political parties in the Netherlands (VVD, GroenLinks, PvdA) during nationwide local elections in 2022 and placed party neutral “get-out-the-vote” reminder ads at the same time, with the same settings, and ad budgets.
