Stephen Fried interview, 2003

Stephen Fried discusses his book, “The New Rabbi.” He begins by explaining that his book follows the story of the Har Zion synagogue, which has to choose a new leader. He talks about how the death of his father brought him closer to his Jewish faith. He describes how Jewish temples prepare for religious holidays and are able to fit more people in a small space. Fried discusses how he was attending another congregation while Har Zion was searching for their rabbi. He ends the interview by talking about what goes on behind the scenes of a synagogue and the importance of leadership and good clergy.
