نبذة مختصرة : The aim of this article is to present the figure of Bernard Chrzanowski from the perspective of his activities as a folk educational activist. Hence, the author of the publication analyzes his social activity, emphasizing those elements of his life that contributed to defining him with this name. It describes his educational path and presents his achievements in the field of education, including his function as the first curatof of Poznań School District. It presents his involvement in the activities of the Folk Lecture Society. Adam Mickiewicz and the People’s Reading Society. For this purpose, it uses the historical method and content analysis of source materials. Finally, it presents the political actions of B. Chrzanowski, wanting to demonstrate the relationship between this type of action and the social activity of this figure in the field of education in the Polish countryside at that time. In this article the researcher answers the questions: What was the driving force behind B. Chrzanowski’s activity? What kind of initiatives for education did he take part in? What actions taken by B. Chrzanowski determine the possibility of calling him a folk educational activist? In order to obtain answers to these questions, the author reaches for archival and written sources, as well as monographs and scientific articles which, however, refer only slightly to the issue explored. Hence, the topic raised gains in value. ; Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie postaci Bernarda Chrzanowskiego z perspektywy jego działalności jako ludowego działacza oświatowego. Stąd autorka publikacji analizuje jego aktywność społeczną, kładąc nacisk na te elementy jego życia, które przyczyniły się do określenia go takim mianem. Opisuje jego ścieżkę edukacyjną oraz prezentuje osiągnięcia w zakresie oświaty, w tym sprawowanie przez niego funkcji pierwszego kuratora Okręgu Szkolnego Poznańskiego.
