نبذة مختصرة : In its latest report the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes Universal health coverage (UHC) as a fundamental human right and promises ‗Leaving no one behind‘ in its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,. The best way to fulfill this promise is that all people – no matter who they are or where they live – can receive quality essential health services, across their entire life course, without incurring financial hardship. However, the proportion of the population that faced catastrophic levels of out-of-pocket (OOP) health spending has increased continuously from 9.6% in 2000 to 13.5% in 2019; when it surpassed one billion people. Moreover, in 2019, OOP health spending dragged 344 million people further into extreme poverty and 1.3 billion into relative poverty. In total, in 2019, 2 billion people faced any form of financial hardship (catastrophic, impoverishing or both). It comes without say that COVID19 crises influenced the stagnation in improvements UHC service coverage index (UHC SCI) in this period.
