      The aim of our study was to evaluate the effects of different interproximal enamel etching methods on pulp temperature and enamel surface under pulpal microcirculation simulation. Within the scope of our study, sixty lower premolar teeth were seperated into four groups of 15 teeth each. The stripping procedures were performed with a diamond coated metal hand stripper, perforated stripping disc, segmental disc and mini abrasive stripping band. An experimental system simulating the microcirculation at a certain flow rate (0.026 ml/min) was created in the pulp chamber and the temperature increases in the pulp chamber during abrasion were measured by means of thermocouple. Then, 5 premolar teeth were selected randomly from each group and scanning electron microscopy images of the enamel surfaces were obtained and surface irregularities were evaluated. As a result of the measurements, statistically significant temperature increases were observed in all groups (p?0.05). The increase of heat in perforated stripping disc group was significantly higher than other groups (p?0.05). However, the average heat increase was found less than critical threshold (5.5°C) in all groups. In the evaluation of the enamel surface examined by scanning electron microscopy, the roughest area was observed in the perforated stripping disk group, followed by the mini abrasive band group and segmental disc group, and the least rough area was in the hand stripper group. It was concluded that, with the coolant effect of pulpal microcirculation as the measured average temperature rises are below the critical level, the interproximal reduction procedures can be used safely. Different levels of roughness have occurred on the enamel surface after stripping. Therefore, polishing is recommended after stripping.
