نبذة مختصرة : Burnout syndrome is considered as a response to chronic job stress. Coping strategies are defined as cognitive and behavioral efforts being made to manage external and/or internal specific demands when these go beyond the resources of the subject. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Burnout syndrome and explore associations with coping strategies in a group of health workers. Methodology: correlative, cross sectional study in a group of 40 workers involved in health care of the unique public hospital of Guapi (Colombia). Socio-demographic and labor data were collected between November 2012 and January 2013. The MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory) scale instrument and the Lazarus scale of coping strategies were applied. Univariate and bivariate (X2) statistical analysis were applied (alpha=0,05). Results: 77,5% of the study population were nurses (90% female), whose ages ranged between 29 and 49 years. We detected 90% prevalence of Burnout syndrome and the most commonly used coping strategy was escape-avoidance. No significant associations or special trends were observed. Conclusions: We observed a matching tendency between Burnout syndrome and coping strategies; however, no statistical significance was found. ; El Síndrome de Burnout es considerado como una respuesta al estrés crónico laboral.
