نبذة مختصرة : Purpose: to understand how protected areas dialogue with governance instruments, how they are inserted in territorial planning at various scales and in sectorial policies, knowing their potential to face climate change in SPAT. Theoretical framework: the governance of protected areas are interactions between structures, processes and traditions that determine how power and responsibilities are exercised. It deals with the relationship between multiple actors, institutions and themes, susceptible to expressing arrangements between interests and negotiation possibilities, with an emphasis on the prevalence of the common good, related to the socially acceptable implementation of public policies. Method/design/approach: SPAT research data, knowledge acquired from planning practices, documentary research and personal records were used. It is a case study on the application of the planning and governance instruments, the protected areas, which analyzes impacts and transformations in the space production processes and the effectiveness of the environmental legislation of the conservation units, in SPAT. Results and conclusion: protected areas are strategic for mitigating climate change. Its governance has been a key theme in this debate, it can be applied both in the management of conservation units and water sources. Climate change is already a reality at SPAT, so it is important to think of mitigation and adaptation strategies that take into account, above all, social and environmental impacts. Research implications: analyzing the SPAT, it is stated that protected areas are articulating and integrating instruments for environmental protection and sustainable development.
