      The aim of this paper is show the link between some ways of understanding epidemiology (modern epidemiology, american and european social epidemiology and latinoamerican social epidemiology) and some theories about social justice in a framework of two politics tradition: the liberalism and the critical theory of society, with the purpose to provide elements to the epistemologic, etic and politic discussion of the epidemiology as a scientific discipline. ; RESUMEN: Esta investigación teórica tuvo como propósito evidenciar el vínculo de algunas maneras de entender la Epidemiología (moderna, social anglosajona y social latinoamericana) con teorías de justicia social en el marco de dos grandes tradiciones políticas y de pensamiento: el liberalismo y la teoría crítica de la sociedad, con el fin de aportar elementos para ampliar la discusión epistemológica, ética y política de la Epidemiología como disciplina científica y su contribución en la reducción de inequidades en salud. ; COL0004362
