Background : In order to gain a better understanding of the coming years in terms of the supply of care in IO, we asked the IMGs trained in this subdivision, from the ECN 2004 to 2017, about their professional future. The main objective was to find out the proportion and profile of those setting up in private practice in IO.Method : Our study was observational, descriptive and cross-sectional. The electronic questionnaire covered their socio-demographic data, academic background and employment status in 2012, 2017 and 2024. It circulated for 3 months. Results : The response rate was 81.7 % with 430 replies. 30% are currently settled or collaborating in IO, of whom 57.7% are women. Over 90% are couples, with an average of 2 children. They prefer to work part-time in group practices. They chose IO for the living environment and the desire to discover new things. For 35%, the fact that they come from Reunion or Mauritania has an impact on their decision to return to IO. Half of them have additional training, and 65% have completed a SASPAS. Their average installation time is 19 months. Multivariate modeling shows that the older an IMG choosing the IO subdivision, the more likely he/she is to settle in IO, especially if he/she is of Reunionese or Mahoran origin. Other characteristics are not statistically predictive of a move to IO.Conclusion : While the loyalty of former IO IMGs to their subdivisions seems to be increasing over time, it is important to maintain this trend in view of demographic trends, particularly in Mayotte.
