Lunfardo in tango lyrics and its impact on the learning of Argentinian Spanish: case study ; El lunfardo en los tangos y su incidencia en el aprendizaje del español de Argentina: estudio del caso

This research paper presents a study of lunfardo in Argentinian Spanish, in which the lyrics of tango songs are used in order to identify the lunfardo terms and their meanings in the Spanish currently spoken in Argentina. The work is framed within a quantitative methodology with a descriptive approach: data have been collected by means of a questionnaire validated by experts of the University of Granada and an intervention programme has been elaborated using lunfardo words extracted from the tango lyrics indicated in the study. Tango songs are, therefore, motivating elements for the improvement of Spanish as a Foreign Language, through a series of exercises carried out by a limited number of students from B2 to C1 level. The intervention programme has been elaborated and carried out online, combining the synchrony of video conference and diachrony in working through many of the exercises. The objectives are focused on demonstrating that through the use of lunfardo terms extracted from tango songs, the students improve their learning of Argentinian Spanish, as well as increasing their motivation to learn. From the results obtained, it has been possible to verify that the proposed objectives were achieved, including the elaboration of our own particular dictionary of lunfardo terms in Argentinian tango songs. Therefore, the conclusion can be drawn that knowledge of lunfardo enhances the students’ linguistic competence in both written and oral use, while at the same time it improves their motivation in mastering Spanish as a Foreign Language. ; Este trabajo de investigación presenta un estudio del lunfardo en el español de Argentina, en el que se utilizan las letras de los tangos para descubrir los términos lunfardos y sus significados en el español que actualmente se habla en Argentina.
