      Staphylococcal infections cause significant economic losses in industrial rabbit farms worldwide. In rabbits, Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for the formation of skin abscesses, pododermatitis, abscesses in various internal organs and mastitis. This leads to delayed growth and development, reduced productivity, infertility or death. The aim of this study was to identify of red and white blood counts changes in rabbits, what is the characteristic of the changes in experimental staphylococcal infection and whether these differences are due to the reactivity caused by obesity. The changes in some hematological parameters in obese and non-obese rabbits with experimental staphylococcal infection were followed up. Blood samples were obtained from v. auricularis externa at hours: 0 (before infection), 6, 24, 48, 72 and days: 7, 14 and 21 days after infection. The number of red blood cells (1012/L), white blood cells (109/L, hemoglobin (g/L), hematocrit (L/L), mean cell volume of erythrocytes (fL), mean hemoglobin concentration in erythrocytes (pg), the mean concentration of corpuscular hemoglobin (g/L), were determined using an automated haematology analyzer BC 2800 Vet MINDRAY-China. Differential white blood cell counts were determined from blood smears stained by the method of Romanovsky-Giemsa. In obese and non-obese infected rabbits leukocytosis with pseudoeosinophilia and lymphopenia have been established. Leukocytosis in obese rabbits was found for a longer period. In non-obese pseudoeosinophilia was observed since 72nd h to 21st day. In non-obese animals white blood cell restoration was much faster.
