The purpose of this study is to determine how economic growth and water stress levels relate to Algeria's per capita renewable freshwater availability between 1990 and 2020, applying the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. The study found that in the near term, a 1-unit rise in economic growth results in a decrease of 0.00016 units in per capita renewable freshwater resources. In the long run, freshwater availability per capita declines by 1.22 units for every 1- unit increase in water stress levels. Additionally, per capita renewable freshwater resources decrease by 0.01 units for every 1-unit increase in per capita GDP. This ongoing decline in freshwater availability emphasizes how urgently governments must give water resource management top priority and look into alternate water sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
