Image and Representation. A General Approach Towards the Written History of Photography in Chiapas. (English)

The history of photography in Chiapas is linked to the visual production of photographers from outside the territory. These visual disigners created an image of the indigenous inhabitants of Chiapas. The photographs shaped the discourse, the representation of the space and its inhabitants, and this was disseminated in different media. Photography and the indigenism applied in the state of Chiapas determined the way in which the photographic production of the 20th century was observed, without the possibility of analysing any photographic genre other than the indigenist one. This text aims to identify, through a selection of representative images, some moments of photography in Chiapas in general. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
