The World War II is an important reference in the history of the 20th century, being evoked by memory and represented in historical heritage and historiography. The objective of this work is to analyze the daily life of the city of Joinville during Brazil's participation in the Second World War, between 1942 and 1945. Official documents, newspapers, letters, oral sources, photographs and bibliographies were consulted. The methodology consisted of criticizing and crossing information obtained in the research. Although reminiscences of a time of war marked by the prohibition of the use of the German language, the resurgence of nationalization measures and the persecution of the local German-Brazilian community predominate in Joinville's social memory, the consequences of the Second World War in Joinville and neighboring municipalities were more diversified and involved several actions to mobilize civil society towards the state of war and its contingencies, as well as the introduction of a press communication regime aimed at the allied cause, with the local garrison of the Brazilian Army and the press as its main means of communication. placement. a Segunda Guerra Mundial é uma referência importante na história do século XX, sendo evocada pela memória e representada no patrimônio histórico e na historiografia. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o cotidiano da cidade de Joinville durante a participação do Brasil na Segunda Guerra Mundial, entre 1942 e 1945. Documentos oficiais, jornais, cartas, fontes orais, fotografias e bibliografias foram consultados. A metodologia consistiu na crítica e no cruzamento das informações obtidas na pesquisa. Embora predomine na memória social joinvilense reminiscências de um tempo de guerra marcado pela proibição do uso da língua alemã, pelo recrudescimento das medidas de nacionalização e pela perseguição da comunidade teuto-brasileira local, os reflexos da Segunda Guerra Mundial em Joinville e municípios vizinhos foram mais diversificados e envolveram diversas ações de mobilização da sociedade civil para o estado de guerra e suas contingências, bem como de introdução de um regime de comunicação de imprensa voltado para a causa aliada, tendo na guarnição local do Exército Brasileiro e na imprensa seus principais meios de veiculação. Ao mesmo tempo, ocorreu a convocação de cidadãos locais para servirem nas patrulhas das praias do litoral norte de Santa Catarina e na Força Expedicionária Brasileira (FEB), durante a participação do Brasil na Campanha da Itália (1944-1945).
