Oral antibiotics as good as IV in child pneumonia.

The article reports that oral antibiotics are as effective as intravenous antibiotics for the treatment of pneumonia in children, and considerably cheaper according to a research in Great Britain. The study included 252 children aged between six months and 16 years, who were diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia based on respiratory symptoms, a temperature of 37.5 degC or above and a radiological diagnosis of pneumonia. The children were treated with either oral amoxicillin or IV benzylpenicillin. Researchers recorded how long it took for their temperature to remain below 38 degC for 24 hours.
