The relationship between early career researchers and academic libraries.

This article examines the evolving attitudes and practices of early career researchers (ECRs) towards the library, in particular its role as a source of discovery and access to information, the use of institutional repositories, and their predicted future for the library. The study is based on interviews conducted with young researchers in the sciences and social sciences in several countries over five years and on two questionnaires that facilitated further information gathering. The results show that the role of the academic library is largely limited to the provision of electronic resources, a role that open access and piracy have recently challenged. Interest in institutional archives is also limited. It does not appear, however, that the pandemic has had a significant impact on the relationship between young researchers and the university library. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

L'articolo analizza l'evoluzione dei comportamenti e delle abitudini informative dei giovani ricercatori (early career researchers, ECRs) nei confronti delle biblioteche, in particolare rispetto al loro ruolo di fonti per la scoperta e l'accesso all'informazione, all'uso degli archivi istituzionali e ai possibili scenari futuri. Lo studio si basa su una serie di interviste condotte nei confronti di giovani ricercatori di ambito scientifico e delle scienze sociali, provenienti da diversi paesi, in un arco temporale di cinque anni e su due questionari che hanno permesso di raccogliere ulteriori dati. I risultati mostrano come il ruolo della biblioteca accademica sia in gran parte limitato alla fornitura di risorse elettroniche, un ruolo che l'accesso aperto e la pirateria hanno recentemente messo in discussione. Limitato è anche l'interesse nei confronti degli archivi istituzionali.
