The experience of the kangaroo method: the perception of the father ; A vivência do método canguru: a percepção do pai

Objective: identifying the father's perception about the Kangaroo Method; pointing forms of nursing contribution in favor of the father and son. Method: research sets up descriptive and exploratory, with a qualitative approach, performed at the Maternity Leila Diniz, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We interviewed six parents of preterm and/or low birth weight through a semi-structured interview analyzed according to Content Analysis in the Thematic Mode. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, protocol nº 150/2012. Results: Kangaroo Method encourages family life with the baby, contributing to the intra-family bonding, and positively influences the father and son approach, and cooperating for the start of a loving relationship. Conclusion: the father's rapprochement with his son, and his partner, also coming from the Kangaroo method, must be sought and encouraged by the nursing staff. RESUMO Objetivo: identificar a percepção do pai acerca da vivência do Método Canguru; apontar formas de contribuição da enfermagem em prol do pai e filho. Método: pesquisa configura-se descritivo-exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa, realizada na Maternidade Leila Diniz, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Foram entrevistados seis pais dos bebês prematuros e/ou baixo peso, por meio de uma entrevista semiestruturada analisada conforme análise de Conteúdo na Modalidade Temática. O projeto de pesquisa foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, protocolo nº 150/2012. Resultados: o Método Canguru estimula o convívio familiar com o bebê, contribuindo com o vínculo afetivo intrafamiliar, e influencia positivamente na aproximação do pai e filho, e cooperando para o inicio de uma relação afetiva. Conclusão: a aproximação do pai com seu filho, e de sua parceira, também advindo do Método Canguru, deve ser buscada e estimulada pela equipe de enfermagem.
