نبذة مختصرة : Objective: to identify and analyze the main health care for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and to study how patients perform self-care. Method: this is a bibliographic, descriptive, integrative review type study. The search for articles was carried out in the databases MEDLINE, LILACS, Scopus and BDENF and in the Virtual Library SciELO, time frame from 2013 to 2018. The descriptors "Diabetes Mellitus Type 2", "Nursing Care" were crossed "and" Self-care ", totaling 788 studies found, followed by a careful evaluation of the content, which resulted in a final sample composed of 17 articles. Results: three categories were evidenced within the studies: "Care with the use, administration and storage of medications"; "Glycemic control and self-care of patients / Foot care" and "Caring for food, physical activity, body weight and family support". Conclusion: it is concluded that the nurse must develop educational activities, aware of his role as an educator, so that the patient understands the need for treatment and participates in his adherence.
