Paternal participation e family reaction towards the teenage pregnancy ; Participação paterna e reação familiar frente à gravidez na adolescência

Objective: to assess the role of the father and the parental family's reaction towards the pregnancy-puerperal process in the youth phase. Method: it is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted by interviewing 559 puerperal teenage women, aged less than 20 years, who gave birth in hospitals referenced in this study, in the period from December 2008 to December 2009. Data analysis was performed through the software EPI-INFO 6.04. The research project was approved by the Ethics Research Committee, under Opinion nº 007/2008. Results: With respect to the reaction expressed by the father and the parental family upon receiving the news of motherhood/fatherhood, the majority of puerperal women reported positive reactions, but we have found a worrying index of absentee fathers during the pre-birth and childbirth periods. Conclusion: the father involvement needs to be encouraged since the time of pregnancy, in order to guarantee that the process of fatherhood is naturally implemented, by caring, supporting and strengthening the bond among father-mother-child and family. Método: estudo descritivo com abordagem quantitativa, realizado através de entrevista com 559 puérperas adolescentes, com idade inferior a 20 anos, que tiveram os partos nos hospitais referenciados neste estudo, no período de dezembro de 2008 a dezembro de 2009. A análise dos dados foi realizada no software EPI-INFO 6.04. O projeto de pesquisa foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, sob Parecer nº 007/2008. Resultados: em relação à reação expressa pelo pai e pela família parental ao receber a notícia da maternidade/paternidade, a maioria das puérperas referiu reações positivas, porém verificou-se índice preocupante de pais ausentes no pré-parto e parto.
