نبذة مختصرة : Este artigo se propõe a discutir os argumentos em prol da silvicultura e da preservação das florestas brasileiras - culminando na organização do Serviço Florestal durante a Primeira República. O presente artigo também visa analisar as preocupações com as mudanças climáticas. A análise que se segue desdobra-se no pensamento de acadêmicos, literatos, agricultores e estadistas baseados em uma documentação que envolve o Ministério da Agricultura, crônicas, revistas científicas e periódicos agrícolas. Nessa análise busca-se perceber como tais atores pensavam a proteção à natureza. Enfim, privilegia-se uma perspectiva teórica fundada na História Ambiental, sintonizando o trabalho com questões econômicas, políticas e culturais.Palavras chave: Patrimônio Natural; Agricultura; Silvicultura; Mudanças Climáticas. ; This article aims to discuss the arguments for forestry and conservation of Brazilian forests - culminating in organizing of the Forest Service during the First Republic. This article also aims to analyze the concerns about climate change. The following analysis unfolds the thinking of scholars, writers, farmers and statesmen based on documentation involving the Ministry of Agriculture, chronicles, scientific and agricultural journals. This analysis seeks to understand how these actors thought the protection of nature. Finally, this article emphasizes a theoretical perspective based on the Environmental History, tuning work with economic, political and cultural issues.Keywords: Natural Heritage; Agriculture; Forestry; Climate Change.
