نبذة مختصرة : Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a scientific area that uses computational symbol processing to automate perceptual, cognitive, and manipulative activities. Although there is great interest in its expansion in Medicine, little is discussed about its impacts on medical education, especially the possibility of substituting teaching functions for technology. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the perception of medical school professors about the possibility of AI replacing human work in higher education. Method: This is a cross-sectional, qualitative-quantitative, descriptive, and analytical study, which evaluated the perceptions of 33 professors of medical courses in Brazil. In addition to sociodemographic and academic data, participants were asked about the possibility (and term) of AI absorbing 14 teaching functions. Result: Professors showed that they believe that teaching skills will be absorbed by Artificial Intelligence, regardless of the term. However, “medium term” and “indefinite term” answers prevailed, even for tasks considered to be simpler. On the other hand, subjectively and paradoxically, the professors highlighted the essentiality of human work in teaching functions. Sociodemographic and academic variables did not impact the professors’ perceptions. Conclusion: Professors of Medicine courses believe that a good part of their functions has the potential to be absorbed by AI, despite highlighting the essentiality of human activity. This preliminary study sheds light on a topic of growing debate that needs to be explored in a more in-depth and analytical way. ; Introdução: A Inteligência Artificial (IA) é uma área científica que usa o processamento de símbolos da computação para automatizar atividades perceptivas, cognitivas e manipulativas.
