      Introdu??o: O envelhecimento ? marcado por diversas mudan?as, uma importante altera??o que ocorre nesse processo ? a mudan?a cognitiva. Cada vez mais as pesquisas mostram que o processo de envelhecimento ? uma experi?ncia heterog?nea, vivida como uma experi?ncia individual e ? afetado por vari?veis como sexo, heran?a gen?tica e estilo de vida. Objetivo: Comparar o perfil cognitivo de idosos jovens e longevos social e fisicamente ativos de Porto Alegre. Metodologia: A presente disserta??o ? um estudo transversal, descritivo, anal?tico com abordagem quantitativa. A popula??o do estudo foi composta por idosos jovens (60-79) e longevos (80 ou mais) e a amostra foi composta por idosos de participantes de atividades de extens?o, incluindo atividade f?sica da PUC-RS. Foi realizado um question?rio sociodemogr?fico e de sa?de que avaliou tamb?m atividades semanais e a satisfa??o do idoso em rela??o a funcionalidade familiar. Foram utilizados tr?s instrumentos com o objetivo de tra?ar um perfil cognitivo dos idosos: O Mini Exame do Estado Mental para a avalia??o do estado mental, a Escala de Depress?o Geri?trica Reduzida para avaliar os sintomas depressivos e dois subtestes da Escala Wechsler Abreviada de Intelig?ncia para avaliar a Intelig?ncia Flu?da e Cristalizada, respectivamente os subtestes: Racioc?nio Matricial e Vocabul?rio. O desempenho nos instrumentos foi comparado entre os dois grupos de idosos e entre as caracter?sticas sociodemogr?ficas. Resultados: Foram avaliados 135 idosos, entre eles, 111 idosos jovens e 24 idosos longevos. N?o foram encontradas diferen?as significativas nas avalia??es cognitivas entre os dois grupos de idosos pesquisados. Quanto ao desempenho no MEEM foram significativos tanto para idosos jovens quanto para longevos, a escolaridade, autopercep??o de sa?de, e atividade de leitura. No subteste Vocabul?rio foram significativos escolaridade e n?mero de sintomas depressivos para ambos os grupos. No subteste Racioc?nio Matricial a audi??o, atividade de leitura, dificuldade de expressar pensamentos, al?m de esquecer o que deveria fazer, foram significativos. Para o QI estimado, foram significativos em ambos os grupos, a escolaridade e a dificuldade de expressar pensamentos. Conclus?o: N?o houve diferen?a significativa do desempenho de idosos jovens e longevos fisicamente ativos. Conclu?mos que o bom n?vel educacional, baixa preval?ncia de sintomas depressivos, boa autopercep??o de sa?de e a pr?tica regular de atividade f?sica foram vari?veis importantes na manuten??o do bom n?vel cognitivo, tanto em idosos jovens quanto em idosos longevos. A escolaridade foi a vari?vel que mais se relacionou com o desempenho cognitivo nos dois grupos de idosos, permanecendo significativa independente de outras vari?veis. Introduction: Aging is marked by several changes, an important change that occurs in this process is cognitive change. More and more research is showing that the aging process is a heterogeneous experience, lived as an individual experience, and is affected by variables such as gender, genetic inheritance, and lifestyle. Objective: To compare the cognitive profile of socially and physically active younger older-adults and oldest-old people. Methodology: This dissertation is a cross-sectional, descriptive, analytical study with a quantitative approach. The study population was younger older-adults (60-79) and oldest-old (80 or more) people. The sample was seniors participating of outreach activities, including physical activity, at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil. A sociodemographic and health questionnaire was conducted that also assessed weekly activities and the elderly's satisfaction with family functionality. Three instruments were used to evaluate the cognitive profile of the participants: Mini Mental State Examination for mental state, the Reduced Geriatric Depression Scale for depressive symptoms, and two subtests of the Wechsler Abbreviated Intelligence Scale to assess Fluent and Crisp Intelligence, respectively the subtests: Matrix Reasoning and Vocabulary. The performance of the instruments was compared between the two groups of elderly people and between sociodemographic characteristics. Results: 135 participants were evaluated, including 111 young older-adults and 24 oldest-old. No significant differences were found in cognitive assessments between the two groups of elderly people surveyed. As for the performance in the MMSE, they were significant for both young and long-lived elderly, schooling, self-perceived health, and reading activity. In the Vocabulary subtest, schooling and number of depressive symptoms were significant for both groups. In the Matrix Reasoning subtest, hearing, reading activity, difficulty in expressing thoughts, in addition to forgetting what you should do were significant. For the estimated IQ, schooling and difficulty in expressing thoughts were significant in both groups. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the performance of physically active young and longevous elderly. We conclude that a good educational level, low prevalence of depressive symptoms, good self-perception of health and regular physical activity practice were important variables in maintaining a good cognitive level in both young and longevous elderly. the variable that was most related to cognitive performance was schooling.
