It studies the contradictions of the education policy concerning the University s possible contributions to the continuing formation of school teachers. This work has analyzed the Ensino M?dio em Rede Continuing Formation Program for High School teachers. This program was known as PROMETEUS on the researched school and it was organized by the S?o Paulo State government and offered to public school teachers. USP s Production Engineering Department was responsible for material elaboration and instructional orientation. The research had a qualitative approach. The researcher and a group of teachers handed questionnaires and interviewed ten teachers from a high school in the S?o Paulo State countryside. All interviewed teachers were part of the Ensino M?dio em Rede Program. Such questioning was made in order to find out the possible value of a Continuing formation course for teaching and also its limitations and contradictions. Several obstacles to teachers continuing formation were studied, such as lack of material, little time for meetings, problems concerning the course s funding, the group s non-commitment, and others due to lack of school space organization and outside factors that influenced the process. It was noted on the positive side the relationship among the teachers, material quality, and the fact that the research took place on the teachers working place. Thus, the research intended to offer reflections on teachers continuing formation that are adequate to the needs and possibilities at hand. O presente trabalho, inserido na linha de pesquisa: Universidade, Doc?ncia e Forma??o de Professores , analisa as contradi??es da pol?tica educacional em rela??o ?s poss?veis contribui??es da Universidade para a forma??o continuada de professores da escola b?sica. Analisou-se o Programa de Forma??o continuada Ensino M?dio em Rede, para Professores de Ensino M?dio, que na escola pesquisada ficou conhecido como Prometeus, idealizado e oferecido pelo Governo do Estado de S?o Paulo aos professores da rede p?blica. O Departamento de Engenharia de Produ??o da USP foi respons?vel pela elabora??o dos materiais e orienta??o instrucional. A pesquisa seguiu uma abordagem qualitativa. A pesquisadora participou, junto a um grupo de professores, da aplica??o do projeto em uma escola do Ensino M?dio no interior do Estado de S?o Paulo. Foram aplicados question?rios e realizadas entrevistas com um grupo de dez professores, participantes do Ensino M?dio em Rede, para investigar o poss?vel alcance de um curso de forma??o continuada na pr?tica docente, bem como seus limites e contradi??es. Foram verificados diversos obst?culos no que tange ? forma??o continuada de professores, como falta de material, pouco tempo para o desenvolvimento dos encontros, dificuldades da coordenadora local no repasse do curso, falta de compromisso do grupo, entre outros, devido ? maneira como se organiza o espa?o escolar e fatores externos que tamb?m influenciaram o processo. Entre os pontos positivos, foram apontados o relacionamento entre os pares, a qualidade do material e o fato do curso ocorrer no ambiente escolar em que o docente atua. Pretendeu-se, assim, oferecer reflex?es sobre a forma??o continuada de professores condizentes ?s necessidades e possibilidades existentes.
