Relation of bullying in high schools with academic performance in higher education: a case study in the Cariri Metropolitan Region.

This study investigates the impacts of bullying on the academic performance of university students in the Cariri Metropolitan Region. Using the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) methodology and primary data from 276 students at the Regional University of Cariri (URCA), victims of bullying were compared with a control group. The results show significant differences in performance coefficients, unfavorable to students who have suffered bullying. The sequelae of this phenomenon during high school have a lasting negative impact on academic performance, with possible future financial implications. These findings emphasize the need for effective preventive strategies and interventions in schools aimed at protecting students and creating a healthy school environment that fosters academic and professional success. Este estudo investiga os impactos do bullying no desempenho acadêmico de estudantes universitários na Região Metropolitana do Cariri. Utilizando a metodologia Propensity Score Matching (PSM) e dados primários de 276 alunos da Universidade Regional do Cariri (URCA), compararam-se vítimas de bullying com um grupo de controle.
