Variantes do vírus influenza: prevenção e tratamento

A gripe é uma doença de dimensão global que se encontra associada a uma elevada morbilidade e mortalidade. Esta apresenta-se, na maior parte das vezes, sob a forma epidémica afetando milhões de pessoas por ano, das quais cerca de 5 a 15% é infetada por infeções respiratórias. O vírus Influenza, responsável pelo aparecimento da gripe, possui características próprias que lhe permitem escapar continuamente ao reconhecimento e inativação pelo sistema imunológico. Existem atualmente duas classes de antivirais usados na profilaxia e tratamento da gripe, sendo eles os Inibidores da Neuraminidase e os Inibidores da Proteína M2. No entanto, estes fármacos têm vindo a entrar em desuso devido ao aparecimento de resistências. Atualmente, a vacinação constitui o melhor método para evitar os efeitos mais nefastos da gripe. Com a presente monografia pretende-se abordar de uma forma breve a caracterização do vírus Influenza e da doença que este provoca, bem como as diversas formas de prevenção e tratamento da mesma. Posteriormente far-se-á referência a um inquérito realizado em farmácia comunitária que visou averiguar o conhecimento da população acerca desta doença
The flu is a disease of global dimension that is commonly associated with high morbidity and mortality. Most often, flu presents itself under the epidemic form, striking millions of people every year, being that 5% to 15% of these are infected with respiratory infections. The Influenza virus, responsible for flu, has specific characteristics that enables it to continually escape the immunological system, either by not acknowledging the virus or even by not activating the defenses of the system. Nowadays there are two existing classes of antivirals used in the prevention and treatment of flu, which are the Neuraminidase inhibitors and the Protein M2 inhibitors. However, these two antivirals are becoming outworn due to the emergence of resistance to both of them. Currently, vaccination is the best method to avoid the worst effects of the flu. This specific monograph is intended to briefly approach the main characteristics of the Influenza virus and the disease it causes as well as the different ways to prevent and treat it. Subsequently, it will refer to a survey conducted in a community pharmacy that aimed to ascertain the knowledge that population has about this disease.
