- نبذة مختصرة :
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for determining a preference of a user for or against a participant of an event when a media asset relating to the event is being played based on monitoring user reactions to the event. Specifically, the media guidance application may detect a change of at least one of the biometric state (e.g., pulse rate, blood pressure, etc.) and physiological state (e.g., facial expression, gesture, body movement, etc.) with a user. The media guidance application may determine that an event has occurred within the sporting event that triggered the change. The media guidance application may determine that the user favors the first participant over the second participant, if the user reacts positively towards a score for the first participant in the event.

- Claim:
1. A method comprising: monitoring, via control circuitry, a mental state of a user while a media asset is being generated for display, wherein the media asset comprises a plurality of events; detecting a change in the mental state of the user at a first progression point of the media asset; in response to detecting the change in the mental state of the user: transmitting, to a server, a request for information relating to a plurality of other users who have experienced a change in mental state during presentation of the media asset; receiving information relating to a subset of the plurality of other users who have experienced the change in mental state within a time interval of the first progression point; determining whether a number of the subset of the plurality of other users is greater than a social watching threshold; and in response to determining that the number of the subset of the plurality of other users is greater than the social watching threshold, determining that the change in the mental state of the user is related to an occurrence of an event of the media asset corresponding to the first progression point.
- Claim:
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising in response to determining that the change in the mental state of the user is related to the occurrence of the event of the media asset corresponding to the first progression point, generating for display a media asset recommendation to the user related to the event.
- Claim:
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media asset is transmitted from a linear data source.
- Claim:
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media asset is an on-demand asset.
- Claim:
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mental state of the user comprises at least one of: a biometric state of the user and a physiological state of the user.
- Claim:
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting the change in the mental state of the user comprises: accessing a data table storing biometric and physiological characteristics of a plurality of mental states; for each mental state stored in the data table: comparing a biometric state and a physiological state with the stored biometric and physiological characteristics corresponding to the respective mental state; and computing a respective overlapping metric based on the comparing; determining a mental state from the plurality of mental states corresponding to a highest overlapping metric; and designating the determined mental state as a mental state of the user.
- Claim:
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of other users who have experienced the change in mental state during presentation of the media asset are other users who share social connections with the user or other users who are within the same geographical location as the user.
- Claim:
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the information relating to the subset of the plurality of other users comprises receiving a list of user identifiers, corresponding mental state changes, and a corresponding time when the mental state changes occur.
- Claim:
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein a data source stores the information relating to the plurality of other users who have experienced the change in mental state while the plurality of other users is watching the media asset from a common live channel.
- Claim:
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting the change in the mental state of the user comprises detecting a change of at least one of: a pulse rate, a blood pressure, a body temperature, an electroencephalogram pattern, a pupil dilation pattern, a body part movement orientation, a body part movement velocity, a pose or a gesture of a body part and a facial expression.
- Claim:
11. A system comprising: a memory; an input/output circuitry (I/O circuitry); and a control circuitry configured to: monitor a mental state of a user while a media asset is being generated for display, wherein the media asset comprises a plurality of events; detect a change in the mental state of the user at a first progression point of the media asset; in response to detecting the change in the mental state of the user: transmit, via the I/O circuitry, to a server, a request for information relating to a plurality of other users who have experienced a change in mental state during presentation of the media asset; receive, via the I/O circuitry, information relating to a subset of the plurality of other users who have experienced the change in mental state within a time interval of the first progression point, wherein the received information is stored in the memory; determine whether a number of the subset of the plurality of other users is greater than a social watching threshold; and in response to determining that the number of the subset of the plurality of other users is greater than the social watching threshold, determine that the change in the mental state of the user is related to an occurrence of an event of the media asset corresponding to the first progression point.
- Claim:
12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the I/O circuitry is further configured to, in response to determining that the change in the mental state of the user is related to the occurrence of the event of the media asset corresponding to the first progression point, generate for display a media asset recommendation to the user related to the event.
- Claim:
13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the media asset is transmitted from a linear data source.
- Claim:
14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the media asset is an on-demand asset.
- Claim:
15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the mental state of the user comprises at least one of: a biometric state of the user and a physiological state of the user.
- Claim:
16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect the change in the mental state of the user by: accessing a data table storing biometric and physiological characteristics of a plurality of mental states; for each mental state stored in the data table: comparing a biometric state and a physiological state with the stored biometric and physiological characteristics corresponding to the respective mental state; and computing a respective overlapping metric based on the comparing; determining a mental state from the plurality of mental states corresponding to a highest overlapping metric; and designating the determined mental state as a mental state of the user.
- Claim:
17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of other users who have experienced the change in mental state during presentation of the media asset are other users who share social connections with the user or other users who are within the same geographical location as the user.
- Claim:
18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the I/O circuitry is configured to receive the information relating to the subset of the plurality of other users by receiving a list of user identifiers, corresponding mental state changes, and a corresponding time when the mental state changes occur.
- Claim:
19. The system of claim 18 , wherein a data source stores the information relating to the plurality of other users who have experienced the change in mental state while the plurality of other users is watching the media asset from a common live channel.
- Claim:
