SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ORCHESTRATING THE DETERMINATION OF A PRODUCT CARBON FOOTPRINT

A product carbon footprint (PCF) orchestrator can include a controller configured to generate a PCF determination package, where the PCF determination package includes a data contract and instructions that are customized for a customer system based on query information provided by a customer system, and where the data contract is configured to receive a plurality of inputs in the form of emission-related data. The controller can also be configured to send the PCF determination package to the customer system, where the emissions-related data remains with the customer system when the instructions are followed to generate the PCF results. The controller can further be configured to obtain PCF results and evaluate from the customer system after the customer system uses the data contract following the instructions of the PCF determination package. Emission data used by the customer system to generate the PCF results may not be accessed by the controller.

1. A product carbon footprint (PCF) orchestrator comprising: a controller configured to: generate a PCF determination package, wherein the PCF determination package comprises a data contract and instructions that are customized for a customer system of a customer based on query information provided by a customer system, wherein the data contract is configured to receive a plurality of inputs in the form of emission-related data, and wherein the data contract and instructions are configured to instruct the customer system as to how to format the emission-related data; send the PCF determination package to the customer system, wherein the emissions-related data remains with the customer system when the instructions are followed to generate the PCF results; obtain PCF results from the customer system after the customer system uses the data contract following the instructions of the PCF determination package; and evaluate the PCF results, wherein emission data used by the customer system to generate the PCF results are not accessed by the controller.

The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to: identify a change in a source used to generate the PCF determination package; generate a modified PCF determination package based on the change in the source; and send the modified PCF determination package to the customer system.

The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to: identify third party sources relevant to PCFs; obtain relevant information relevant to the PCFs from the third party sources; generate a methodology for product and emissions allocations; and generate a table for receiving customer emission data.

4. The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the data contract is based on an industry in which the customer participates, and wherein the instructions are generated on the customer system based on data sources and software used by the customer system to generate the PCF results.

5. The PCF orchestrator of claim 4, wherein the PCF determination package is generic to all customers that participate in the industry.

6. The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the instructions are based on a software package, residing on the customer system, used by the customer to generate the PCF results.

7. The PCF orchestrator of claim 6, wherein the data contract includes a translator that translates the instructions for the software package, residing on the customer system, used by the customer system to generate the PCF results.

1. CF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to: obtain query information from the customer system, wherein the data contract is derived using the query information.

9. The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the PCF determination package generates an audit trail each time the customer system generates the PCF results.

10. The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the PCF determination package is accessible through a secure portal for a website.

11. The PCF orchestrator of claim 1, wherein the data contract comprises mapping data from each data source of the customer for generating the PCF results.

12. A computer-implemented method for orchestrating the determination of a product carbon footprint (PCF), the computer-implemented method comprising: generating, by a PCF orchestrator, a PCF determination package, wherein the PCF determination package comprises a data contract and instructions that are customized for a customer system of a customer based on query information provided by a customer system, wherein the data contract is configured to receive a plurality of inputs in the form of emission-related data, and wherein the data contract and instructions are configured to instruct the customer system as to how to format the emission-related data; sending, by the PCF orchestrator, the PCF determination package to the customer system, wherein the emissions-related data remains with the customer system when the instructions are followed to generate the PCF results; obtaining, by the PCF orchestrator, PCF results from the customer system after the customer system uses the data contract following the instructions of the PCF determination package; and evaluating, by the PCF orchestrator, the PCF results, wherein emission data used by the customer system to generate the PCF results are not accessed by the PCF orchestrator.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, further comprising: identifying a change in a source used to generate the PCF determination package for the customer; generating a modified PCF determination package for the customer based on the change in the source; and sending the modified PCF determination package to the customer system.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein the instructions comprise steps and substeps that detail calculation functions performed by the customer system to generate the PCF results.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein the instructions are configured to allow the customer system to generate the PCF results for the customer.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein the PCF determination package is derived from a general template that applies to a plurality of customer systems of a plurality of customers, wherein the plurality of customer systems comprises the customer system, and wherein the plurality of customers comprises the customer.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein the PCF determination package is generated by: identifying third party sources relevant to PCFs; obtaining relevant information relevant to the PCFs from the third party sources; generating a methodology for product and emissions allocations; and generating a table for receiving customer emission data.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, wherein the data contract includes weighting factors that are applied to at least some of the emission-related data.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 18, wherein the weighting factors are used to generate weighting values for at least some of the emission-related data.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 19, wherein the weighting values are used to generate allocated emissions values.
