English abstract: Background: Stigmatization of people with hearing loss has been studied in numerous research studies over the years. Several research studies report that people with hearing loss experience stigmatization due to their hearing loss and use of hearing aids. Research studies also indicate that stigmatization can lead to self-stigmatization among people with hearing loss. However, little is known whether people with hearing loss experience stigmatization and self-stigmatization in Danish society. There remains a lack of systematic and comprehensive research on these topics in a Danish context. Aims: The main aim of this study was to examine whether people with hearing loss and hearing aids in Denmark experience stigmatization and self-stigmatization due to their hearing loss and use of hearing aids, and if so, how these experiences are manifested. Methods & Procedures: A questionnaire was designed to capture the multifaceted nature of stigmatization, including perceived societal attitudes and the impact of stigma on self-concept. A total of 130 people with hearing loss and hearing aids, aged 32 to 96, completed the questionnaire. Their responses were then analyzed using both statistical methods and thematic analysis. Outcomes & Results: Most of the participants did not experience stigmatization or self-stigmatiza-tion. However, some people with hearing loss and hearing aids did report such experiences. Specifically, 22% of the participants have encountered prejudices related to their hearing loss and use of hearing aids. The result of the thematic analysis revealed interesting insights into the experienced prejudices and their impact on self-perception. Conclusion & Implications: Some people with hearing loss and hearings aids in Denmark experience stigmatization and self-stigmatization. This study highlights the importance of increasing public awareness and understanding of hearing loss in Denmark.
