Introduction: The response of men to the SVIT national screening program is still lower than in women. The purpose of qualitive research was to examine the personal factors associated with the low participation of men in the screening and early detection of colorectal cancer program. Methods: The study is based on qualitative methodology. We included nine men aged between 50 and 74 who were invited to participate in the Svit screening program and had experience with it. The data were obtained by conducting semi-structured interviews with these men between May and June 2022. The data were analyzed using the content analysis method. Results: Four themes that define men's perception and behavior that affect their response regarding the screening test were identified 1) Experience of medical care (2) Knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about the Svit screening program (3) Experience of the Svit screening program (4) Influence of the social environment on responsiveness to the Svit screening program.Discussion and conclusion: Findings suggest that the reasons for participating in male cancer screening and early detection programs are diverse and critical for early cancer detection and reduction in mortality rates associated with the disease. The findings of the research have shown that men often experience the white coat syndrome and a negative attitude towards medical examinations. The majority of men experience fear, ignorance, and the need to maintain a "macho image". Further research should include the impact of planned promotion screening programs on men’s response regarding screening programs.
Podatki so bili analizirani s tematsko analizo vsebine.
