This article investigates the contributions of critical social psychology and Mad Studies to think about power relations and interrogate the mechanisms of domination in the field of mental health. By establishing a critical stance and a committed will in the production of knowledge, the articulation of these two schools of thought allows us to question the power asymmetries in research processes and sustain new ways of understanding madness on our continent. From a Latin American perspective, it is proposed to blur disciplinary boundaries, develop alternative methodologies, and favor intersections and alliances with other struggles and social movements. Around these elaborations, activist research is proposed as another way to generate knowledge with mad communities and promote processes of epistemic reconstruction and emancipatory justice in contemporary mental health.
The present article explores the contributions of critical social psychology and Mad Studies to think about power relations and interrogate mechanisms of domination in the field of mental health.
