      The modern urban life and provided "facilities" to which the human body does not come into contact evolutionarily. Aspects concerning health eventually undermined by modern diet, dyslipidemia, heart disease, obesity and other disorders are almost chronic and highly prevalent in human societies of the new millennium. Thus, food quality has become a worldwide concern, integrating health programs worldwide and deserves special mention and explanation of the correct use of food and its nutritional benefits. Of course, some foods offer beyond nutrient bioactive substances capable of positively influencing the physiology and promote health. This new type of functional food is said. Still, despite the problems surrounding the use of animal products, mainly due to the lipid profile of these products, currently has researched ways of administration of food of animal origin in addition to providing quality nutrition have a positive effect on health promotion human body. This review aims to detail the benefits of functional foods of animal origin.
      A vida urbana e moderna proporcionou “facilidades” às quais o organismo humano não entrara em contato evolutivamente. Aspectos concernentes à saúde acabaram prejudicados pela dieta moderna; dislipidemias, cardiopatias, obesidade e outros são distúrbios quase crônicos e muito prevalentes nas sociedades humanas do novo milênio. Assim, a alimentação de qualidade passou a ser a preocupação mundial, integrando programas de saúde em nível mundial e merecendo destaque e esclarecimento do uso correto dos alimentos e seus benefícios nutricionais. Naturalmente, alguns alimentos ofertam além de nutrientes substâncias bio-ativas capazes de influenciar positivamente a fisiologia e promover saúde. Esse novo tipo de alimento é dito funcional. Ainda, apesar da problemática em torno do uso de produtos de origem animal, principalmente devido ao perfil lipídico desses derivados, atualmente tem se pesquisado formas de administração dos alimentos de origem animal que além de proporcionarem nutrição de qualidade possuam efeito positivo de promoção de saúde no organismo humano. A presente revisão tem o objetivo de detalhar os benefícios dos alimentos funcionais de origem animal.
