This paper was developed by Dr. Yeh, Dr. Liao, and Joe Petrosky from the Center for Advanced Automotive Technology (CAAT) and was presented at the 120th American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference and Exposition on June 24, 2013. The objective of the paper is to review the education and training programs provided by the CAATâs University-Community College Partnership between Macomb Community College and Wayne State University in meeting industry needs for future workers in advanced automotive technology. Discussed within the paper is the increasing need for trained automotive engineers, engineering technologists, and technicians to support the entire product lifecycle of advanced automotive technologies, the CAATâs response to these needs which includes strengthening communications with industry to clearly define future workforce requirements, and developing and offering technologically progressive training programs, and the funding used to create these training programs, partnerships, and curriculum reform. The paper received ASEEâs Engineering Technology Division Best Paper Award in 2013.
