The investment under appraisal is part of the modernisation of the railway line No. 100, between Budapest and Záhony by the Ukranian border, and relates to the full reconstruction of this corridor between the stations of Szajol (excluded) and Püspökladány (included). The major project is one of the key actions identified in the Hungarian Transport Operational Programme and contributes to the realization of the objectives of the priority axis 2 – Improving the internal railway and waterway accessibility of the country and the regional centres. The project is also part of the TEN-T rail network in Hungary with international connection to Russia via Ukraine
