نبذة مختصرة : The Autovía del Olivar, also called Eje Diagonal Intermedio, consists in the upgrade and new construction of an interregional highway corridor of 170 km length, connecting Ubeda to Estepa. The project will improve road transport and accessibility between the populations and main cities located in the Córdoba and particularly Jaén provinces; overall the traffic to and from these territories and the ones in the central and northern part of the Andalucía region are expected to benefit from this investment. The major project contributes to the realization of the objectives of the priority axis IV (Transporte y Energia) of the PO FEDER 2007-2013 of the Andalucía Region. Its development was originally planned in the Plan Director de Infraestructuras de Andalucía PDIA 1997-2007 and then in the Plan de Ordenación del Territorio de Andalucía POTA 2006. The strategic relevance of the project is described in Chapter II – Redes de Ciudades Medias – of the POTA which highlights the role that the Eje Diagonal Intermedio, as major trunk road, will have on the economic development of the following cities Puente Genil, Lucena, Cabra, Baena, Martos, Torredonjimeno, Jaén capital, Úbeda and Baeza, especially for the production and manufacture systemactive in these areas. The investment is also included in the Plan de Infraestructuras para la Sostenibilidad del Transporte en Andalucía – PISTA 2007-2013; it is also in line with the national infrastructure development plan – Plan Estratégico de Infraestructuras y Transporte (PEIT 2005-2010)
